Being Home: Embracing the Mystery of Who We Are
10-Day Silent Meditation Retreat with Richard Miller

July 21-30, 2025
San Damiano Retreat Center, CA

Meditation Retreats are geared to support people interested in opening to their underlying Essential Nature: the Mystery that has given birth to the entire cosmos. Retreatants participate in engaged spiritual discussions, multiple experiential nondual meditation practices (of which iRest is one among many offered), and ways of integrating these precious spiritual teachings into everyday life. People are introduced to the nondual teachings, which underlie iRest, and to their non-separate Essential Nature. More information to come soon.

**This event fulfills the long retreat requirement for Certification students.

Being Home: Embracing the Mystery of Who We Are
10-Day Silent Meditation Retreat

Who we are in each moment is an unfolding expression of the Great Mystery—the vast, unfathomable force that has given birth to the entire cosmos and everything in it. To live in harmony with this Mystery, we must recognize and rest in the truth of this realization.

There is no need to strive for a particular goal or destination—whether it’s enlightenment or any other ideal—because we cannot control or determine our own experience. It is the Mystery’s dynamic intelligence that shapes every moment of our lives and guides us home to our Essential Nature.

Throughout the retreat we will engage in a variety of practices designed to help us directly experience this Mystery in our own lives, moment by moment. Each day, we will sit in meditation, allowing the mind to settle and become receptive to the ever-present flow of the Mystery. In the quiet of meditation, we will rest in the unbroken awareness of simply being the nondual presence that we are, opening to whatever arises without effort or judgment.

Alongside meditation, we will explore BodySensing and BreathSensing practices that allow us to attune deeply to the sensations of the body and breath, offering us an intimate connection to the present moment. As we turn our attention inward, we begin to feel the pulse of the Mystery through the movement of the body and the rhythm of the breath, noticing how they are constantly shaping and guiding our experience.

Self-inquiry will be another essential tool, inviting us to ask the simple yet profound question: Who am I? This practice is not about finding a specific answer, but about allowing the question to deepen our connection to the source of our experience, drawing us beyond the limitations of thought and ego to the truth of our being. It is in this space of unknowing that we come into direct contact with the Mystery itself, experiencing it as both the question and the answer.

We will also engage in intimate dialogue, creating a space for authentic connection and exploration with others. In these conversations, we will inquire together into the nature of reality and our direct experience of it. Through dialogue, we uncover the ways in which we each relate to the Mystery, deepening our understanding not just intellectually, but experientially. These intimate exchanges offer us the opportunity to support one another in surrendering to the moment, sharing insights, reflections, and wisdom as we go.

Our Essential Nature—the Great Mystery—is constantly expressing its creative intelligence, shaping our every experience. True wisdom is not found in striving for an end state, but in recognizing that liberation is, in fact, a surrender to the Mystery itself, allowing its moment-to-moment flow to guide us. Any attempt to force or control our experience is simply second-guessing where the Mystery is taking us.

When we stop trying to move toward a particular outcome or goal, we open ourselves to the Mystery’s natural unfolding. When we hold on to fixed ideas or ego-driven intentions, we limit that flow. This includes even spiritual practices that aim to realize specific ideals, such as the experience of the absolute or non-conceptual awareness. What remains is a simple, motiveless inquiry into the truth that is already unfolding, grounded in authenticity and surrender. In this openness, we are free from the fixation of a separate self, and instead, we become the essential presence that flows effortlessly with each moment.

At our core, we are the unchanging, dynamic stillness of the absolute—this Mystery that lives us and animates all things. While our wisdom and understanding will continue to evolve, our true nature will forever remain grounded in the Mystery, which is both the origin and the force that moves through us and all things. In this space of simply being, there is no separation between being, awareness, presence, and the Mystery itself. They are, as we are, inseparable.

I understand that yoga and iRest programs may release strong emotions and I accept this possibility and the result of such emotional release.

I acknowledge that there are risks and dangers that cannot be eliminated in this type of event, and even if a risk or danger could have been eliminated, this does not always occur.

I understand and accept that at in person events physical contact between student and instructor may be necessary. I consent to such contact as is considered necessary by the Instructor.

I represent and warrant that I am physically fit and have no medical condition that would prevent my full participation in yoga, iRest and any other Institute programs. I will advise Institute instructors of any and all physical and emotional conditions that could be affected by yoga, iRest and Institute offerings.

I agree to follow instructions carefully and to immediately stop any activity that causes me any unacceptable discomfort, emotional distress or pain. I will report any discomfort, emotional distress or pain to the instructor as soon as possible during or at the end of the program.

In consideration of being permitted to participate in yoga and iRest programs with the Institute, I agree to assume full responsibility for all risks, injuries or damages, known or unknown that I might incur as a result of participating in such activities.

I understand that yoga and iRest may produce a deep state of relaxation that can continue for many hours after the program is complete. I acknowledge that I may need to refrain from driving a vehicle after a yoga or iRest session, until I feel capable of responding to the situations that may arise while driving.

I understand that if this event is being presented in an on-line format it may not allow the instructor to watch my movements or my posture.  I accept any additional risk that may be present because of the instructor being unable to correct any movement or behavior that I may be experiencing and I agree that I will stop any movement or activity that causes me pain or discomfort.

I acknowledge that during my participation in this event I may be filmed and/or recorded and my image and/or voice may appear in one or more videos or recordings, being produced by Richard Miller or the Institute.  I further acknowledge that one or more of the videos and/or recordings in which my image and or/voice appears may be posted to the Institute’s website and may be shown at various Institute events to support initiatives of the Institute.   I consent to the Institute posting the videos and/or recordings, which contain my image and/or voice, on its website or using the videos and/or recordings at retreats, workshops, trainings and other events where they may feel it is appropriate to promote the Institute or for any other purpose. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless all of the Providers.

I, my heirs, assigns, legal representatives and spouse, if any, forever release, waive, discharge and agree not to sue any of the Providers for any injuries or damages I may sustain.

I waive and release any rights I may have under California Civil Code §1542, which states as follows: “A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release, and that if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party “

I agree that this waiver will be interpreted, as broadly as allowed by law, and that if part of this waiver is deemed invalid then the balance shall remain in effect

I further agree that this waiver and any subsequent claims or legal proceedings will be governed by the laws of the state of California.
